Which has the higher concentration of Cl- ion?

How to convert Cl concentration to HCl concentration?

  • So I used an ion meter to determine how many ions of chloride there were in a solution and the answer was 5.5 ppm Cl, and I need to convert this to the concentration of HCl that would be in that solution. Anyone know how to do this?

  • Answer:

HCl is a strong acid, so it completely dissociates in water. That makes the concentration of Chloride ions the same as the concentration of Hydrogen ions, as well as the concentration of Hydrochloric Acid.

Other answers

HCL(aq) = H+(aq) + Cl-(aq) They originated in the HCl which is 100% soluble in water. If the Cl- ions = 5.5 ppm so are the H+ ions.
