    For the first part, you are right in what you said. Hydrogen carbonate is the nomenclature of the compound. But, Carbonic acid is chosen to be the common name. Usually things do get common names in Chemistry. For the second part, you are wrong. The reaction of CaCO3 with HCl is: 2 HCl + CaCO3 --> CaCl2 + CO2 + H2O.

The same to HCl, which you call hydrochloric acid. However, HCL (g) gas is called hydrogen chloride, not hydrochloric acid. Hydrogen chloride dissolved in water forms hydrochloric acid. You get what i mean? and, commenting the above, HCO3 - Is NOT HYDROGEN CARBONATE, INSTEAD IT IS HYDROGEN CARBONATE ION. The Ion part is very important as hydrogen carbonate anion is completely different to the standard hydrogen carbonate And, calcium carbonate + HCL, the products are calcium chloride, water and carbondioxide, h2co3 is not a product
