Can anyone explain how to balance redox equations?
-
this is so confusing i asked a question on YA answers and i asked Can you balance these redox equations using oxidation number change and i put this equation KClO3------> KCl + O2 and some guy put this as the answer Cl goes from + 5 to -1 O goes from -2 to 0 2 KClO3 = 2 KCl + 3 O2 can anyone explain where the 2 in KClO3 and the 2 in KCl came from and how you get it?
-
Answer:
he simply balanced the equation for mass ?? KClO3------> KCl + O2 ..is not balanced ?? 2 KClO3 = 2 KCl + 3 O2 is .. it should balance for charge ?? 2 X ( +1 +5 -6 ) = 2 X ( +1 -1 ) + 0
