What is the actual equation for Photosynthesis?

Q. on the photosynthesis equation! Confused !!?

  • I have an equation in my notes that I took down in class: Carbon Dioxide + Water = Food + energy + oxygen Most of that I can understand, it's easy but when I look in the book the equation was different. It was: Cabon Dioxide + Water + Energy = Glucose + Oxygen In case you didn't notice, energy is on opposite sides. I know that you need light energy on the left for photosynthesis to occur but, you get the energy ( in food) in the end too. What I'm confused with is that what side do you choose. My teacher only wrote it down once on the right? I can't ask her because I don't have her tomorrow and my test is on Wednesday! What do you think I should do? I need to learn one for the test, but which one?

  • Answer:

    Basically, the energy created at the end of photosynthesis is called ATP. That is chemical energy. It is most likely in the photosynthesis equation to have energy in the product part of the equation not in the reactant part. so i would use this equation below Carbon Dioxide + Water ---------> Food + Oxygen + Energy (ATP) hope this helped

Other answers

definately the second equation as in this case the energy mentioned is the sunlight!!!!

ssian27

The second one, The energy is sunlight. The glucose is what plants use to get energy from respiration.

Energy is needed for photosynthesis whereas respiration produces energy. Technically, energy isn't a reactant but it is needed so you place it above the arrow/equals sign with chlorophyll with photosynthesis!

I'd go for the second one.

Photosynthesis occurs in plants. You are thinking of aerobic respiration which occurs in humans. The correct Photosynthesis equation is: carbon dioxide+water+light = glucose + oxygen Respiration is the reverse of photosynthesis so: Glucose + oxygen = carbon dioxide + water + energy

I was taught: Carbon Dioxide + Water -->> Glucose + Oxygen (+ a little energy) Like Raza said. :) x x
