What are the steps of the Half-reaction method for Balancing redox Reactions?

Redox Reactions Please Help?

  • Ok I have some Redox Equations here that I need to balance, I'm good at balancing the equations that have 2 elements on one side, and 2 on the other those are easy. But I'm getting thrown on how to do these which only have 1 element which then becomes 2... I can't search for it b/c i dont know what it is called the best I can do is ask here and post a pic of the types of equations that are giving me trouble. http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4013/4277737611_190d47d8f2_o.jpg If you know what they're called, or what steps I need to take to solve them that's all I really need... I can determine if I've done it right from my answer being balanced, thank you. -Joe

  • Answer:

The equations in that picture are incorrect and impossible to balance. Perhaps you have misinterpreted the question- you may need to specify the missing elements and their stoichiometric coefficients, rather than balance the equation. Have you considered the possibility that you may not actually need to balance them?
