Why are crayons made out of wax?

When/where does the chemistry happen when making crayons?

  • I know that crayons are wax and pigment, I don't want to know what a crayon is made out of I just when to know when in the process of making a crayon is there chemistry.

  • Answer:

    The wax and the pigment must mix perfectly, the pigment must not be toxic, the wax and the pigment must be inert towards a large number of household chemicals, the pigment should be washable. All of the above can only be answered by Chemistry.

I am not sure how much chemistry there is. It is just melted wax molded into shape and colored with dye.

Crayon is wax melted with colour and put in to mould.I think there is no chemistry involved.
