Which one is the stronger acid?

I want one solvent which solve poly acrylic acid and poly acrylamide together please introduse solvents?

  • i solved polyacryliac acid in dimethylformamide but polyacrylamide doesn't dissolve in DMF i mean i tried your answer in yahoo answer but it is not true.i do in water but poly acrylic acid doesn't solve in water and polyacrylamide dissolved .i cann't find one solvent for solving two polymer

  • Answer:

According to the literature, polyacrylic acid is soluble in alcohols, dilute alkali, dioxane/water (80/20), DMF, formamide, 1-methyl-2-pyridine. Polyacrylamide is pretty much only soluble in water. I think water at pH>7 is your best bet to dissolve both. I have to tell you, if you are trying to dissolve two different polymers in the same solution, it's not likely going to happen. They tend to phase separate. Polymers just don't like to mix, unless they are very similar in structure, or there are unique intermolecular interactions, like hydrogen bonds. For the PAA/PAM system, I think the tacticities would have to match up for a solution to form.
