What is molecular weight (mass?

What is the primary difference between weight and mass?

  • a)weight deals with one sixth the amount of gravity that mass does b)weight deals with no gravity, whereas mass does deal with gravity c)weight deals with the pull of gravity, whereas mass does not d)weigh and mass have no difference. the terms mean the same thing

  • Answer:

Its c, the weight of something is the mass multiplied by gravity, whereas the mass is just how many kgs it has

None are quite right (maybe I just don't understand the choices based on the way they are worded). Weight is the response of mass to a gravitational field - we feel the 'weight' solely due to the force of the gravitational field we are in (the moon's gravitational field is one sixth the Earth's so objects have one sixth the weight). Mass is the amount of matter in an object. Mass does not change, it is not affected by the gravitational field - an object on the moon has the same mass as that object on Earth.

c - weight depends on gravity wherever you happen to be, if you take the mass of something it's the same everywhere

Ans) c

c. This is more of a physics question, rather than chemistry, however.

Weight is in fact defined as mass times acceleration due to gravity and is typically measured in kg(m)/s^2 or N (Newtons). The other answers are correct. If you were on the moon, you would weigh 1/6th the amount you currently do, which is nice...

The answer is c. Mass is determined by comparing one weight to another, which means that gravity is intact in both places and, therefore, not a factor.

c)...Weight deals with the pull of gravity....(As ordained by the Scientific world).

weight is what you get in mc donalds at six times the price. mass is what you get when you go to church. gravity is the problem you have when go out on saturday and can't walk home. weight and mass have a difference ..the terms refer to two different social behaviours.

Gadgetroid

The answer is C! Although the primary difference is mass deals withe amount of matter in something and weight is what it takes to pick it up, C would be the best logical answer.
