How do you study for chemistry finals? ?
-
My Chemistry final is coming up (first year chemistry) in a week. I am wondering how i should study for chemistry. I am not a very strong chemistry student and I have tried many ways of studying before and no matter how much i study, I never seem to pull off a decent mark. I need some tips? Thanks :)

Answer:
READ the book is the best thing to do in chemistry, after reading it.. try solving as much as you could from the questions at the end of the chapter, even if you have no idea what you are doing.. try and experience it because that way you will know which steps you are weak in and you will mess up on in the final and you could have more time to practice them again. what i personally do is i go through each chapter one by one, i make my own notes. i have two notebooks - 1 is for the notes i take during class, and the other is for the notes i create by myself. memorize what you need to know such as formulas that might not be given to you. the more you read and look at examples. the better you will solve similar ones on the final I wish you a wonderful thanksgiving and an A on your final :)

go over the notes and try to do some of the problems without looking at the notes..if u cant solve the problems it means that you don't know the material well enough.... the test will be based basically on your notes.... good luck that's what i did and i got a decent grade.....and im not very interested in chemistry let me tell you...lol
use things like flash cards and just try to devote at least a hour and a half a day till the finals to really study

I'm a high school chem and APChem teacher and always tell my students 2 things. One, learn it and don't get behind too far. More importantly stay calm and look at questions systematically, chem questions (especially) multiple choice ones are largely about figuring out what is being asked for, what units you have, and how to make the appropriate conversions. At the end don't forget to check sig figs. college professors kill students with sig figs. Study/practice a couple of key topics a day and do questions for which you have solutions so you can make sure you're studying and practicing correctly. Good Luck and stay calm.
