Why do men get erections first thing in the morning?

It definitly has something to do with the sleep phases, but also to do with friction on the penis from clothing, the bed sheets etc. BUT more importantly, our hormones are at their peak 1st thing in the morning, so therefore we are at our sexual peak at that time. The hormone level decreases gradually during the day after that. Hope that explains things a bit better :-)

It is part of the REM stage of sleeping. Everything in your body goes into overdrive in that final phase. That's why men don't get it if they don't sleep well.
