A paper written by R. Vetter (ucr.edu) explains this better than I can. Dr. Vetter is perhaps the utmost authority on spider envenomations. 95% of confirmed bites from these spiders have not required medical attention, and heal nicely on their own. in rare cases, the bite received a dose of venom that resulted in systemic paralysis of the diaphragm resulting in the death of the victim. the venom of the Phoneutria nigriventer is the most lethal (highest ld50 rating) of any arachnid. C/P; venom contains a potent neurotoxin, known as PhTx3, which acts as a broad-spectrum calcium channel blocker that inhibits glutamate release, calcium uptake and also glutamate uptake in neural synapses. At deadly concentrations, this neurotoxin causes loss of muscle control, and breathing problems, resulting in paralysis and eventual asphyxiation. for someone other than an adult in good health, a bite would start by pain and swelling at the site with severe pain following after 30-60 minuets. systemic reactions such as sweating, nausea, muscular cramps, and dry mouth would follow. loss of muscular control would be followed by death. the good news,,, you would be far more likely to get struck by lightning, and win the lottery, than receive a bite from one of these.

I think it's fair to say one gets the Shaft. YouTube explains it all. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMiPJD0yrKM Not only are they the world's most venomous spider, they are extremely fast and extremely aggressive. A triple threat! The venom is twice as potent as the "Black Widow" with neurotoxins that shut down the heart and the lungs, and attack the brain. As for whether Yahoo can handle your priapismic symptoms, all of us who know the Yamster understand that he's the kind of rat that talks a big game and then comes up short. In closing, I offer this little gem from the comments of the YouTube video above. I edited it slightly. The punctuation is added for the sake of clarity, and the profanity is censored for the Yahoo! Audience, but otherwise, it's all real, and it's fantastic material. :-) ____________ dutchkollman: I ain't scared of no thick-massed, hairy, slow-moving f*****! Lady221: You would be if you woke up with it on your neck. They like dry places. Also damp places. Move quickly, it'll bite you. Move slowly, it'll bite you. Don't move, it'll bite you. Basically you've invaded its place of residence, and it's just gonna f*** with your s***! _________________ 8-| Sweet Dreams, Everyone! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0uD17tNip1s .
