Is black considered a color?

Can black be considered a favorite color?

  • Ever since I was 5 (possibly 6) I always liked black. It's always been my favorite. But now that I'm older, I read a few books on the color spectrum and apparently black is the absense of color...? I know a few people will get technical and rant on and on about how I'm dumb for not having a proper favorite color, but...really. :/ Can it be considered a favorite color or not?

    Technically black is the absence of colour, yes, and white is the sum of all. But for communication purposes we call black and white colours too. If someone asked you what colour is your car, you wouldn't reply 'my car has no colour, it's black' because that would sound rather soppy. You would just say 'black' and your reply would most certainly be accepted. No one would ask 'does your car have a colour?' Therefore your favourite colour is black.

You're right, actually, black is not found anywhere in nature. It has to be created. This is why it is looked down upon in most painting in the art world, to use black, you must mix "black" yourself. You can have black be your favorite color though, yes.

Well yes why not! Its a colour with many characteristics. It is the darkest colour after all. Sort of king of the jungle. If that makes sense! :)
