The difference is actually less than you would expect. Without a map in front of me, I can't say exactly, and it also depends a lot on which part of the east coast you are considering, but time-wise, the standard world-wide is Greenwich Mean Time, which would be 0:00; the east coast is four hours behind, or 8:00, and the west coast is another four hours, or 4:00. Of course, Alaska is another hour behind, and Hawaii another yet.

Look at Google Earth! If you do not know where England is then type it in the search and work out the answer for yourself assuming you know east from west!

If you fly from Glasgow to Washington it takes 6h 35m. If I fly Glasgow to LA it takes 7h 45m New York is 2000 miles from California give or take. Whereas England is 3600 miles away from NY.
