Why do women tear up paper more often than men?
-
In my office there are about 10 women and 10 men. Most of the women tear up scrap papers several times into small pieces while the men usually screw it or fold it. I tend to tear private stuff but just dump ordinary paper. There are about 5 of the women who tear everything to shreds, even boring stuff like old calendars, envelopes, catalogs etc. Is it some kind of group behavior or just a female thing?

Answer:
I think you need to do a more scientific study befor you declare that women shred more. In my office I believe the opposite is true.

i think this is true. there are several women in my office who do it. one of them sits near me, she's like "rrrrip, rrip, rip, rip" every 15 minutes. it's quite annoying actually. personally i reckon they do it to seek attention. this shredder woman wears sleeveless tops and struts around in 4 inch heels every day. i think she just enjoys showing off.

Its been my experience that women tear up men more often than paper. LOL! Just kidding, of course. I think women tend to tear things up because they are more sensitive as a gender and respect the privacy of almost everything(not that you in you non-tearing moments are not sensitive.) You're pretty accurate in generalizing that men tend to feel that they are empowered to deal with consequences and are a little more flip about privacy. Good observations--I wonder if there is a Psych research project to be done on this....

I always tear stuff up. I usually rip it in half four times. It's partly force of habit and I also enjoy it. I'm not sure about group behaviour though, I never noticed it. In my office there's me and another girl that sit near each other and both of us always tear but there's many others of both genders that don't seem to do anything in particular. I'll have to look more closely!

I think its because women tend to want finality ... when you tear something up its pretty final...I dont think men tend to stress on the finality of some given situations. Of course on the otherhand I tear paper up because it leaves more room in my trash can...LOL...so it could have something to do with preservation!!!

force of habit, most probably. And an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure, so they say. Women, I guess are just taking precautionary measures.

Funny observation. I'm a crumpler, myself. I wonder what that means.... :-)

All i know is that when i see a woman tear something up it is usually so no one can know what they wrote, or copy it.
