Who invented the electronic drum set?

Where and why the drum set was invented?

  • Question says it all.

  • Answer:

the drum kit, or "trap set" as it was often called, was invented out of necessity. it happened in the 1930s or so. before that, bands generally had a percussion player, sometime several of them. they stood up as they played the snare or the cymbals or whatever else. these drummers played in the big band jazz scene. after around the 1930s, jazz bands started becoming more consolidated. the bands wanted 1 drummer only, and the only way to do this was to have all of the percussion instruments spaced around the drummer. it eventually began to evolve, with drummers such as ringo starr really bringing it to the foreground. after the beatles hit it big on the ed sullivan show, the drum set really took off and people started experimenting with new ways to set it up. and thats how the drum set came to be :D

I believe the Ottoman, empire used a drum to comminicate across long distances to their ally armies. Most likely in Africa for cultural purposes. Cymbals were invented in Turkey to scare their enemies.

It came about because space became an issue in theaters. So drums were consolidated to groups in order to save space and hire fewer percussionists.
