Should i do civil engineering or building engineering to be a developer ?

  • well..i wanna grow up to be developer. coz my dad has quite some land. to be a developer , should i study civil engineering or building engineering ? i realy neeed help. because i gotta decide it soon to enter collge..plz help out.

  • Answer:

Do double major. If you take classes during the summer, yes you can do that, the impact of a double major would be minimized. Take civil engineering and a business degree. After you get a handle on what you like you then make another decision to go for a PE, or MBA/JD. Remember, just because you go for the PE you still can go for the MBA/JD later. Cheers and Good luck!

to me, you should be a civil engineer because you can make a lot of more things than a building engineer developer. this i just my opinion but pick one that grabs your most interests and one that you know you will enjoy doing for the rest of your life.

Theres a pretty wide range of civil engineering fields. At University of Maryland they teach "civil and environmental engineering". There are 3 tracks within that major, they are: 1. Structural; 2. Environmental/Water Resouces; 3. Transportation/Project Management. For land developing you would probably want to do #1, Structural, with a minor in Project Management, Land Survey or Landscape Architecture.

I agree with the Law to cover your tail, and id also recommend business management. However, with the state of the housing market, developing that land is likely to leave you broke with more houses than you can live in... CivE would be your best bet for a stable future, cities keep getting bigger by the day and they need CivE's to keep them all organized...

Building Engineering would be more useful, but if you really want to be a 'developer' then Law (both Civil and Criminal) is what you really need to study.
