Is the Solano Community College in Fairfield, CA a good place to enter?

Can i enter engineering after community college ?

  • What i heard, community college is a place where you study the secondary subjects in a major, such things as english or philosophy if your doing engineering, so if i do a year in CC, and im an international student (im lebanese, and going to america next year),can i do that and then enter engineering, aeronautical engineering, and i have an SAT of 730/800 in math, or do i need my school grades too ?

  • Answer:

Salam Alaykum. I am Iraqi myself and just graduated from engineering in May 2011. The answer is Yes, you can do that. You don't need your school grades. When you transfer to a school for engineering, they will ask for your CC school transcript to see if any of your classes will transfer over. Not all colleges accept all community college credits or classes because community college classes are easier and sometimes cover less material than real College courses. Community College is a place for people not sure what they want to do and for people who don't have enough money for college. CC is a cheaper college that only teaches basic subjects. Going to a regular college from the beginning is better for your education, but tougher and more expensive. When you send them your transcript, the college will tell you what classes will count towards your degree and you will need to speak with a student councilor about what classes you will need to take. You might need to take 3 years of college instead of 2 years if you need to take extra classes that did not transfer over from CC. Also, most engineering majors require a 3.0 GPA to be accepted into the major and a 2.0 GPA to graduate from the major. Some engineering majors have a lower GPA entrance of 2.0 GPA. It depends on the school. If you have lower than the required GPA, you get put on a seating list where if they cannot find enough students to fill the major, they will accept you into the major. Good Luck.
