Answer:
I would suggest getting a general equivalence diploma. That would be your first step. If you've been out of school a while you might want to sharpen your academic skills some. Many colleges offer tutoring for free. Where I work, we help individuals such as yourself obtain a GED. Many of the students here go on to be successful in college or whatever field they aspire to. Its mainly a matter of determination. If you want to be a civil engineer then you will be. You just have to put the effort into it. Start learning math. Start reading as many books on the subject as you possibly can. You don't have to be in a classroom to learn. Work hard and you will succeed. Good luck.

first to get into any university, trade school or community college you will need at least a GED. Get that before you plan on being a civil engineer. I think you are getting way ahead of yourself. Once you get that you will probably have to attend community or junior college because I would guess you GPA would be too low for a university. Do good there and get into a university that offer civil engineering. good luck!

You can do it, but it will be a challenging road. How much math and science did you take in High School? A BSCE will required 20+ hours at a Calculus 1 and higher level 10+ hours of Physics 10+ hours of Chemistry Multiple courses in Stress analysis, mechanics of materials, soils, concrete, steels, and then you pick a special areas of interest such as Structural engineering, Roads, Construction, Surveying etc. As everyone has said you need a GED followed by getting some basic math and science courses at a college level. If you are successful in these courses (basic chemistry, college algebra, basic physics) you could then apply to take the engineering level courses in these study's. Good luck to you. I roomed in college with a guy who graduated high school, worked for years, then went back to college and earned his degree in Civil engineering at the age of 35.

Your own will is what will determin that. Do you like to build things and see things be built? And don't forget that one of our historys most unfuencial geniuses, Mr Einstein himself was not only a high school reject and drop out, but he was hampered by a bad case of dyslexia. Francis Collins, now one of the worlds leading bio engineers and the founding father of the worlds human genome project, that saw it through to it's completion ( an itial $3 billion project), was a high school drop out in cowboy booted rebel in a white frock that takes himself to work on his Honda Nighthawk. Your will , is the most important ingredient, not a piece of paper with grades on it. I, myself, is a self educated junior high school drop out. I now read everything I can get my hands on when I'm not working on my ranch, or out there driving my 18 wheeler. I hope that I am an inspiriation for you. What you could start with, is envisioning a specific contraption that you want to construct. Envision all the things that you can create, and let that be the drive engine behind your endeavors. The world is out there for the taking. Make it work for you. Go out there , and make it happen- anything you want. You can do it, because you want it bad enough.

You won't go directly into it, no. But you might be able to find a job as an office assistant in a civil engineering firm. You'll probably have to go back and get a GED and then take classes at night to get a degree in Civil Engineering. Maybe the best place for you to start would be at a local junior college and talk with either a counselor or one of the faculty who has a degree in civil engineering. Doug

There is no chance. First you need a GED and then you can get into a community college somewhere. COncentrate on your GED first.
