Where to apply for electrical engineering jobs?

Electrical Engineering?? Pay?? Future Jobs?

  • Hi I am planning to do Electrical Engineering this year at Leicester University. I am planning to take on 5 years MEng plan with 1 year at industry. I am very interested in engineering but a bit worried about learning it. I want to achieve really high marks in this degree. My weak point is that I haven't done physics. Do you think I will be able to cope with it? Will books help? as most of it is practical which confuses me even more. Also once I graduate which places can I work at in UK. What sort of sallary I expect? What is CEng and will that boost up my career even more? I heared many people saying that engineering is a dying career and I shouldn't choose it because by the time I finish my degree in 5 years it wont be good at all in UK. Please help me with this.

Hello, I live in the US and am currently studying EE. It is a very exciting and challenging degree. So far, physics hasn't been that bad. In my opinion, engineering is the most exciting and rewarding career there is to offer- especially electrical because it's so broad. This world will always need engineers and scientists to make the the world a better place. You should go for it, you wont be disappointed in the end. GOOD LUCK!

Engineers are here to stay .. who do you think is designing all the electronics that we all love so much..

I am a retired Electrical Engineer having spent 50 years in the profession and never been out of job offers, even after retiring. It is a large field covering specialisation in electronics, communications, power, control, manufacturing, management etc. You won't get paid as much as a banker or an accountant maybe but who wants to just count beans? I can guarantee you will have an interesting time. If you are interested enough, just do it. You will need some catching up in physics to at least O level or better A level standard and your maths will need to be good, also if you are not very practical, why do you want to be an engineer?. CEng means Chartered Engineer and to acquire it you need at least a BSc in Engineering with some years of practical experience in a responsible job. Don't worry about finding a job, The modern world will always need engineers of every discipline, and the supply is getting less in the UK because young people are not opting for science subjects.
