Which degree would be better? Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology?

Can a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree land me in motorsports career-wise?

  • I'm a college student working towards an engineering degree and for a career, I want to work in the motorsports industry (NASCAR, NHRA, etc). The college here offers a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology, but I'm a little curious... I know a Mechanical Engineering degree can greatly help me land a job in motorsports, but can a Mechanical Engineering Technology degree? The college here only offers M.E.T., not M.E. By what I've been told, they are basically the same.. just M.E. is more theory, and M.E.T. is more application. Does anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

In general whether it is EET or MET, the difference is an engineer or a technician. The theory makes the difference. An engineering degree is always more highly respected in any industry.

For what i have seen in my state looking for jobs m.e.t is worthless without another degree on the side. If you get a m.e.t and asep(auto repair degree) then you might have something.Do you have 2-5years experience? If so then it wouldn't matter met would be fine. Now if you go for 4 years and get bs ,doors start opening up.A m.e.t degree without anything else in my state lets you work under a engineer as his secretary.
