How many watts is in a volt or vise versa im trying to make a solar system and need to convert my watts?

trying to change watts to a 12 volt battery i have 860 watts is it possible and how to do it thanks

Answer:
No way for conversion. If you do not know what is a Watt and what is a Volt then you are far of making a solar system.

A volt is a unit of electrical potential, while a watt is a unit of power. They are not directly convertible. One volt times one amp would supply one watt of power. I don't know what you mean by "you have 860 watts". Do you mean you have a motor that requires 860 watts (or you have 860 watts of lightbulbs or something)? If you wanted to supply 860W with only 12V, that would require 72A of current. You'd need to have very large wires for that type of current. Automotive batteries can supply it, but only for a short time. Reserve Capacity Minutes (RCM) lists how long a battery can supply 30A before dropping voltage too low. High discharge rates will not allow the battery to deliver all the power inside. So your capacity will be much less at high drain than at low drain.

P=EI where P = power (watts) E=voltage I=amps So if your battery is rated at 100 amp-hours it means it could output 100 amps for 1 hour in theory (or 100 hours at 1 amp). To charge it from empty how long will it take? Depends how many amps your charger is at. To determine this use the formula again: P=EI 860=12*I 860/12=I 71.7 amps So if that was 100 then it would take 1 hour. Since it is less then it will take a bit more, take 100/71.7 = 1.39 hours to charge. That is at perfect efficiency too keep in mind.
watts and volts are not the same thing, Volts is the "speed" of the electricity. Watts is a measure of electrical power. Amps is a measure total current flow.

First of all i want to explain you the meaning of Watts and Volts. Volts: it is the measuring unit to measure the potential difference in between the two points of a conductor. or we can say it is the unit to measure that in how much ratio the electrons are present at those two ends. higher concentration area will have -ve potential and lower concentration area will have +ve potential. Watt is the unit to measure power and is the product of voltage and current flowing through the conductor. now as you've mentioned that you've a power source of 860 watt. but you should also read the voltage of that component or cell. 860 watts means that the component can deliver 860 watt power but it should be at some potential difference. also you can calculate the voltage if you've the value of current taken by your load by just dividing the total watts with the current taken by the load.

You're trying to compare apples to oranges. A watt is a unit of power. It is equal to 1 joule per second, or a current of 1 ampere flowing across a resistance of 1 ohm. A volt is a unit of electric potential. It is the potential difference across a 1 ohm load when 1 ampere flows through it.

Watt = Volt x Current
