What difference does it make that she is a girl? If she has an aptitude for engineering, it shouldn't matter what gender she is.

Branches of engineering are more suited to individuals rather than genders. I know plenty of girls in all of the branches you've listed. Some struggle and some succeed brilliantly in each branch. If she's a programmer, go for #1. If she's interested in signal processing, go for #2. If she's interested in electromagnetism or controls, go for #3. If she's into computers, go for #4. If she's into electronic components and circuits, go for #5. None of those are gender specific.

As an engineer, I agree with the responders who say she should go with her interests. However, it might be too early to tell what her interests are. The first two years of school are very similar for all engineering disciplines. She will take mechanics, electromagnetism, calculus, computer programming among other basic courses. She should pick her best guess as to which she'll enjoy and switch later if her interests take her in another direction. I don't believe there is a discipline which is better suited for girls (whatever that means), but more girls choose electrical related disciplines than mechanical. The engineering discipline which has the most number of girls (based upon my experience) is biomedical engineering. I'm a male in the field and probably make more than my traditional engineering counterparts and the windfall is just beginning. Check out the Forbes Woman article below for more information.

I have heard it argued that Americans, while having an internationally popular but generally somewhat lower quality college system, are successful because so many of their people do what they love. If you want to enable your daughter to be the most successful then you have to understand how she thinks, and can be passionate about as well as what are requirements and common environments for the position. Match her passion as well as her talent well to what she will study and she will get through tougher classes better, and be more successful in her field. Best way to find out is to have her and you talk with professionals in those fields. Academics do not count .. unless you hope she becomes an academic. People who are successful, and actually working, are the ones you should talk to. There are many multi-national companies (like Intel) that have women's groups whose participants are very open to talking about what the job requires, or how to succeed in a particular discipline. There are also professional societies (Society of Women Engineers aka S.W.E) that do the same. Your daughter is also likely to work hard if she knows that her father helped her select a field that was fitted to her personality and heart as well as to her bright (and well-trained) mind. As a father let me congratulate you on your daughters high marks. That shows her parents are both invested in her education and involved well in her life. That is good parenting!

Let her choose with her interest. Almost all the courses are good for girls and i could personally recommend the Electronics and communication engineering.
