Laptop Choice for Engineering/Information Technology student?
-
Hi, I am starting my Bachelor of Engineering(Electronic and Computer Engineering)/Bachelor of IT, this year at Griffith. I would like to know whether or not I should buy a mac. My friend who is studying the environment this year just bought a macbook pro a few days ago and showed it to me, it look pretty nice. And I like the instant on feature as I saw him open the lid and everything he was doing just came up immediately. I am quite knowledgeable with computers so dont be afraid to use all the computer terms in your response. My budget is reasonably high, as I was thinking of also buying the 15" i7 Macbook pro. At the same time however I am not really sure whether I should just stick to windows as I am used to it, and I know we will be using Autocad and probably some programming software and other engineering software. This is one of the reasons I am hesitant about a mac, I know you can use parallels or Vmware but apparently they do not run very fast and with such intensive modelling and mathematics programs the computer might not handle it. I also want the laptop to be pretty light and thing, a macbook pro is a great size. So if I were to go with a windows computer I would probably get an ultrabook. considering normal windows laptops are often quite think and heavy.

Answer:
Go for Macbook Pro. Macbook Pro is a smart choice for professionals and techinical users. It has everything you need in your pc .Laptops may be cheap but Macbook Pro definitely worth your money. Macbook Pro has awesome video quality, video editing and many other extra features. No one can compete Macbook Pro in its classy look and unique performance. It's the best. There are good things about machines in terms of specification. A longer lifetime, - 406 minutes of battery backup - No chance viruses - HD facetime camera - 4/8-Gb RAM - Thunder bolt port (The fastest connection to any output device i.e monitor,tv etc) - Multi touch pad. The weight is heavier than many though. Its 4.5 lbs and a bit hard to carry with one hand. But other than that I would recommend it. Here is a good review on the macbook pro which I found to be helpful: And from my research I found out that they are giving a good amount of discount on the macbook pro: http://budurl.com/NewestMBP15 -From my bookmarks here you would be able to find a good review on the macbook pro that would help you out on this decision: http://budurl.com/NewestMBP15Review

If a windows, get a Asus N55SF-S1124V. It has an i7-2630QM processor, much more than enough for Microsoft Office stuff. A Nvidia Geforce GT 555M should be able to take care of your necessary engineering designs. It is a high mid-range graphic card able to notch up all the new games in medium settings. While being a Windows, it's only 2.7 kg. It is only 200 grams heavier than the 15 inch macbook pro. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y570-08626JU.68999.0.html Another option is the Rock Xtreme 685. It has an i7-2820QM processor. It is a fast quad-core processor currently one of the fastest Sandy Bridge processor available in the market. It has the AMD Radeon HD 6970M. It is only 2.2 kg, 300 grams lighter than the MBP. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-IdeaPad-Y570-08626JU.68999.0.html If the above choices doesn't appeal to you, you could get the MBP 15 inch and run the Windows in bootcamp. It is significantly faster than running windows in parallel.
