What's positive and negative about being an architect?

Whats the difference between an architect and civil engineer?

  • I Know that an architect designs buildings and things but whats the difference in what a Civil engineer does? also what does a Construction Manager does differently?

  • Answer:

An architect is someone who is free to dream up just about anything they want and call it a structure. They are not bound by any laws physical or otherwise. A civil engineer is someone whose work is governed by the laws of physics and mandated codes. They try to covert the architect's dreams into a design that can actually be built. A construction manager is the person who tries to build the thing the architect dreamed up and the engineer designed.

Well , as a civil eng. i won't say the architect Designs, because they create a beautiful imaginary stuff , which no one can but it into construction rather than a qualified structural eng. who will DESIGN it . design procedures are very sophisticated & long it includes much of assumptions & itterations. So if u wanna design , then study civil , which is a headache like the rest of the engineering fields , but if u feel like creation & dwg or imagination then arch is ur place. in civil we have plenty of sub-specialities like: Geotechnical engineers surveyors Environmental Eng. Structural Hwy Eng. Airport Designer (it's Civil mainly except for the TB others interfere) Transportation & Traffic Railway Irrigation Harbour Engineers Project Management Eng (BOQ & that stuff) hope this satisfies you, about the constr. manager they could be civil or arch. & they are usually arch , though civil study more project & const. Management there is a famous instituite called the PMI that gives this deg for engineers

Arc are a good dreamer like a wife and civil engineer are the one who fulfill it like a husband. arc. see dream of different structure and civilengineer full fil it in field. in brife civil engineer see the site work and arc. does computer or table work.

A civil engineer takes courses that are much more technical than an architect. Civil engineers work on water works, highways, airports, buildings, bridges, tunnels, drainage, etc. They work both for the public and private sector. I have worked as a civil engineer, primarily for private companies. My expertise is in planning, designing, and supervising irrigation and drainage projects. This work has included dams, canals, drains, pipelines, as well as associated structures such as bridges. A construction manager supervises the work going on at a site and helps to ensure that the works are completed according to plans and technical specifications as well as finished on schedule. Depending on the type of construction work, a construction manager could be a civil (or other) engineer or architect.

An Architect is a generalist. He is concerned with the entire project. The other Engineers involved are sub-contractors to the Architect. A Civil Engineer will primarily be concerned with Site work. A Construction Manager supervises and co-ordinates the work of all trades. (He takes a lot of Excedrin).

take this example and U will under stand the difference : if U have a building the civil engineer concentrate on how he is gonna make the building stress analysis of the building and concrete etc. but architect concentrates more on the outside of the building how beautiful and elegant it is.
