Answer:
Chem e on average....i'm graduating in december and i'm just starting to look for jobs I've seen them range from 40K - 70K starting. But on average, the figure was close to what the other person stated, about 57K. Petroleum seems to pay more typically, you can also do that as a petroleum engineer and i think fuel science too. A guy from exon did talk to us, and he said if you put two identical applicants side by side, but one was chem e..the other petroleum....they'd probably go with the Chem e and spend some extra time training them.

Chemical engineering is generally considered to be slightly ahead of the other engineering fields in starting salary, around $60,000 annual in starting salary. It also offers the best fast-track to corporate leadership of the other engineering fields.

ChE is up there yes...also nuclear engineering, petro engineering and biomedical engineering are up there as well....just depends on where the engineering job is at and for what company....

you can make alot with all the engineering fields. I hear that chem engineers make the most but i know more electrical engineers starting in the 60K range. I wanted to do chem engineering but i decided that mechanical was a better bet due to the options available.

In digital wireless communications I've hired new PhD graduates at over $100k. But you have to be exceptional.

Petroleum Baby!! If you go to a school with a good program (Oklahoma, LSU, Texas A&M, Colorado school of Mines, Texas), you can expect around 70K coming out of school, average. If youre at the top of your class, much more. I go to A&M, and one guy in the class above me had a 4.0 and tons of experience (his dad owned a company). He got an offer of 96,000, and thats with a B.S. and without a bonus. I am going into my last year and interning this summer, and Im salaried at 4,400 per month. That is more than several engineers with a degree, and about 1,000 more per month than a civil engineer. Its also important to note that I am not very highly ranked in my class, and my GPR is quite average. chemical and mechanicals are often hired by oil cos. but don't have as much of a specialty and aren't paid as well. Electrical is also well paid, but easily the hardest engr discipline.

maybe you should look at who's paid to most in the area in which you want to live......Chem-e's make some serious cash...but if there's no market for them in you area...so much for the big bucks. In my area...the practicing civils are dying off at a faster rate than they are replaced by graduates. I came out to an offer for 55k...10 higher than the average here...and they are paying for grad classes.......plus...money is great, but if you don't like it...you will be miserable. Find a degree plan you like....if you cant decide...find an internship with an engineering firm or company...a summer with them should give you alot of insight.

My advice is to pursue what really interests you. If you really love what you do then you will be successfull and the salary will follow.
