Is it possible for a CIVIL ENGINEER to become a professional ARCHITECT?

Should I become an Architect or a Structual Engineer if I want to design buildings?

  • I want to design buildings and other things and I was looking into engineering, but found out that engineers don't design the building they just make shure it stands up. Then I was looking into Architecture and found out that they don't make a lot of money and so it is difficult to decide. Can I just become a Structual Design Engineer and then design buildings. They have a wide scope of field so I can go into anyother field and start designing, so would it be a good idea if I become a Structual Design Engineer.

  • Answer:

a civil/structural engineer can represent the owner as much as an architect legally. in other words, a civil/structural engineer can hire an architect to take care of the entire project as much as an architect can hire a structural engineer as an consultant. it all depends who the owner prefers.

Most architects that design buildings are Civil/Csructural Engineers. If you become a Civil/Structural Engineer you will be able to design buildings, after a few years of practice.
