How do I plan a Career in Genetic Engineering?

• What are the best majors for a career in Genetic Engineering? What are the best colleges to acquire this major? What extra curricular actives should I be involved in to advance my career in Genetic Engineering? I'm hoping to pursue a career in Genetic Engineering and want to expand that into human genetics. I've decided one of my optional choice for a major would be biomedical engineering, molecular biology or genetic engineering. However, I'm trying to find out what colleges will provide the best environment to fulfill my major. In any major along these lines my college choice will primarily depend upon the college research program and the provided labs. Any additional programs I can actively enter now will also be very helpful. I am entering my sophomore year in high school and I'm taking Chemistry and Biology this year. Within my next 3 years in high school I will be taking an additional science class to help ready my process for my major. If there are any other ways to help me pursue this career I will gladly look into them.
