Where to buy Tesla coil?

A Tesla Coil Question?

  • I want to hold the primary coil of my and my friend's Tesla Coil using varnished wood [rulers are perfect in dimension, the wood I am using]? Would the fact that wood can conduct electricity be bad for the primary coil, or will I be fine. The coil is using 2500 Kw.

  • Answer:

I've done that before, but wood is certainly not ideal. If it's the only material you have for the job, I have some recommendations: 1) Do not use ply wood. 2) Make sure the wood is as dry as possible. 3) Use little sections of rubber or vinyl pipe to insulate the coil at the points of contact with the wood. Use those precautions, and it should work just fine. Mine did. I must note that I doubt very much that it's a 2500KW coil. Perhaps 2500W, but certainly not KW. At 2500 Watts, this thing will be frightening enough! Please use lots of caution.

It requires good magnetic material than wood whose permeability should be greater.

Dry varnished wood will not conduct enough electricity to be a problem.

2500 Kw (i.e. 2.5 megawatts) is way too much power for wood. I would use Mycor machinable ceramic. This is bigger even than the Tesla's Wardenclyffe tower, be sure to post some videos!
