Should I study electrical or mechanical engineering?
-
Quick background, Im in my 2nd semester of college, I chose industrial engineering initially, honestly because I was afraid of the rigors of the other disciplines, and business and efficiency intrigued me. Now that I'm in Calc II, physics:mechanics, and have taken 2 engineering courses, I'm thinking it's challenging, but I can do it, and I'm liking what I'm learning so far. So I'm deciding if I should go into EE or ME. When I was young, I enjoyed putting computers together, and tinkering with wires, and LOVED programming in high school. At the same time I LOVED messing around with CAD. My dad got his degree in ME and always tried to get me involved in fixing things with gears, like bikes, or pulley systems, or car engines, and I hated it, but I enjoyed designing and building things with my hands. In the end I want to get my MIS or MBA and possibly go into consulting which is the best discipline for me? Final interest, Enjoy studying: physics, LOVE MATH, and random subjects like anatomy and psychology, reading on stocks (on my own) and learning new languages Hate studying: chemistry thanks in advance bonus: would like to hear about job opportunities for both disciplines, and what life as an ME or EE entails

Answer:
Probably choose EE over ME but also check out Computer Engineering if you like programming so much, it's got more programming than EE and more focus on computers/digital and not so much analog as EE, might be the best fit out of the three...to me it seems closest to what you were describing.

Definitely go into Electrical Engineering. You will regret ME. However, do not specialise in power systems, rather get into electronics and computer specialities.
From what it sounds like you are saying, it sounds like you are going to like Electrical Engineering better.
