How to determine exactly how much caffeine is in a bean of coffee?
-
I am using the Swiss Water process to decaffeinate unroasted coffee beans, but I need to know how much caffeine is in the beans initially to determine if the decaffination process is effective (above 95%). The coffee beans do not need to be usable for this procedure. All I know is that they need to be ground, but not sure where to go from there. Also, if anyone knows how to purify the caffeine sample from Swiss Water, please let me know. Thanks in advance!

Answer:
Extracting caffeine is a common chem lab experiment. You can look up any number of procedures with a search. Here is an earlier question about this: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20070309071757AAunW0e
