How to make an index variable in R?

How do you make index cards stonger?

  • For my connection class (technology) I am doing an experiment and i need some advice. We are using the materials: 4- index cards, 3 inches of masking tape, white glue, scissors, and a ruler. If you have any info on how to make them a structure by holding 10 textbooks, plz let me know.

  • Answer:

bend the index cards into cylinder shape. Cylinders are the strongest object and will hold the most amount of weight. 4 index cards will make 4 cylinders...placed in a square/rectangular shape with masking tape holding the index cards in the cylindrical shape and some glue for extra support. Should hold 10 books with no problem.

well you should take the index cards and submerge them in glue and let them dry then repeat the process 3-5 times till the cards get a nice coating of hard glue on each card that should make the cards rock solid and hold the 10 textbooks up

Think outside the box... You don't say how high you have to hold up the text books. Technically you can just stack the 10 cards in a flat pile and place the text books on them. If you have to make a "Structure" then tape them into a flat sheet. and the cards will still hold the text books. Now if you have a minimum height requirement then consider rolling cards cut in half lengh wise into cylinders 1-2 in in diameter. These cylinders can be placed vertically under a book to support its weight and additional books placed as necessary on top.

You could try cutting the ruler into two pieces and then bending the index cards into a U-shape but with two folded ends on each side. Glue the folded ends to one side of the ruler so the U-shapes are upside down then tape the second piece of the ruler to the top of the U-shapes. So you basically have a solid base, then four arches, and a solid top. If there is only enough room on half a ruler than just double up on the arches so you have two arches that are double thick. Not sure if that will work but it's at least an idea. You could also try two arches and two upside down arches that alternate each other. This may not work standing straight up but it could work on its side?.?.?.?

Ok Hanah, by the sound of this it sounds like u go to Inman Middle school and your in Mr. Stapps class. I did that last year and won a Snicker bar for winning. The secret is to keep it small, make pillars 1 inch tall, and laminate them on the outside with glue. I heard that in 2006 the winning sculpture was 73 book and this is what they did.

Cape Verde Girl

make the index card into cylinders and tape them then place them on the corners of the book and stack the other books on top it will hold the weight

Nickles

Break the ruler into splinters. Tape and glue the splinters to the base index cards so they will hold more weight.
