How to estimate water usage?

Daily Domestic water usage per person for various countries?

  • Bangladesh 45L United states 80L United kingdom 200L Canada 335L Q1: How does Canada's daily domestic water usage per person compare with other countries in the table above?what might be the reason for this? Q2: How does your own daily domestic water usage compare with the average Canadian's water use as shown in the table above? Answer Fast PLZ :) :)

  • Answer:

In most industrialised countries in the west, with 3 to 4 people in a middle class household each taking a bath or shower, flushing the toilet several times and occasionally (at least in summer) the garden being modestly sprinkled and the car washed, the daily consumption is around 1200 liters. In Q1 your requested comparison is implicit in your table - the numbers speak for themselves. As to the reasons: the Canadian figure is plausible but the US one must be too low by an order of magnitude - the comparison to Canada just doesn't stand up. UK is also credible since the climate is almost always cool and wet and many folk don't bath every day, especially in winter and gardens don't need much water. Bangladesh is probably so low due to the living standard. One possible reason for low numbers is drought restrictions on usage which may(?) apply in some parts of the USA but hardly in the other countries. Q2: I agree with the Canadian number for a family of four.
