What is the difference between device and instrument?

What is most recently invented device/instrument from Iran used all round the world & when was it inventented?

• All the talk recently about history and scientific inquiry by Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has me wondering. What sort of creativity the place he grew up in blessed the world with in recorded history, especially anything recent and widely used elsewhere. I am looking for a tangible technology - not a literary device - but an actual mechanical, electrical, or electronic device. Chemical processes, like recipes, don't really count. Everyone has them, just as everyone eats. It should have some practical use. I do not really count a crossword puzzle or Rubik's cube as practical, really. It does not have to be something expensive or impressive to count. For instance, I consider a compass, a lock, and a battery cell all useful devices. I don't really consider a plate or a vase a device because they do not seem like an invention. I would consider a pitcher or wineskin a device because it can be used to carry water long distances - and water is essential to human life. Give newest, please!

  An Iranian woman was presented with a medal and cash award in 2004 for an invention using 100% cotton as insulating material in place of (dangerous) asbestos. See the link. As with most countries, there is no shortage of bright minds there despite a government that likely does not reflect the true will of the people because many candidates for elective office are excluded for political reasons by those in power. Let's hope that one day the Iranians will be free, and soon.
