What is the vector diagram of a transformer?

Hammond 272BX Power Transformer wiring diagram?

  • http://sigma.octopart.com/13144/datasheet/Hammond-272BX.pdf The above link takes you right to the data sheet of this wiring diagram for the 272BX Power Transformer. This is what I am trying to use to heat and power my vacuum tubes. However I am having difficulty getting the voltage I need. I assume that the black wires are my AC input, and each of the red wires has 300V dc on it and the Red/Yellow is a center tap. but no matter what combination I use I can only get about 78 volts. As for the 6.3 v heater; I am having just as many problems. There is no Green/Yellow or Yellow/Black wire, only 2 green and 2 yellow. No matter how I combine them I cannot get 6.3v as I should. What's going on here?

  • Answer:

The data sheet does not have any "ct" in the filiment columns, so that should explain the lack of grn/yel or yel/blk wires. If you are checking the voltage with the secondary not connected to the circuit and you have verified that the primary voltage is 115V, the transformer must be bad. If you are using different meter or different ranges to check the secondary voltages, check that meter on the ranges used. Re additional details: Blk to Blk is 115 VAC input. Red to Red is 600 VAC output. Each Red to Red/Yel is 300 VAC output. Yel to Yel is 5 VAC output. Grn to Grn is 6.3 VAC output.
