How to install a range hood?

Overhead Cabinet substitution for installing overhead microwave/hood combo?

I just bought a microwave/hood combo (kitchenaid KHMS2050SSS). While I was at the store the sales person told me I could install it either way, I asked because they didn't have the model in the store. Anyways, it requires an overhead cabinet to install and I don't have one over my range. MY QUESTION IS, is there something I can substitute for an overhead cabinet that would allow me to mount my new microwave there? I was thinking maybe a shelf type structure?

The particular model u purchased is designed to be "hung" from something. It's basic requirement is that it is substantial enough to hold the load of the unit with consideration of food inside. Good luck.
