How can you improve your listening skills?

English speakers! How to improve my listening skills?

  • I have to take FCE exam in summer (in June). I have problems with listening. Is there any website from where I can download Listening (part 1, part2, part3 part4) and practice? Do you recommend me any other ways of improving my listening? Thanks in advance (წინასწარ გმადლობთ) :))

    I've read a few studies that have shown listening/watching radio and television in a foreign language greatly improve understanding. You will not be able to understand everything that is said of course, native speakers of any language talk very quickly, but it will force your brain to adapt faster, without first translating what you are hearing into your native language. It also will accustom you to hearing idiomatic, dialectic, and ungrammatical english, along with slang, which is what you will encounter most outside the classroom. While you're driving or working out or making dinner, put the radio on in the background and I think you'll find it helpful. This in addition to studying, of course! Best of luck with your exam!

BBC has got many radio stations available online, so I suggest you to start from there! TV programmes and news are also fine but do not use subtitling there if you want to practise your listening comprehension skills! Good luck!

I am not sure about any websites but i do know that you should get a tutor to help you with your listening. Or if you know someone english record them and then listen to them over and over again and trying to understand! If you cannot do either then watch an english movie because it will help you be able to recognize the language and you can pick out the vocabulary!
