How to improve my English pronunciation?
-
Hey.. Guys.. i know practice makes perfect.. but i still wanna know if there is a good way of learning English pronunciation... I am really into english.. and had been trying really hard to improve my English as much as possible... I found it really hard to speak english clearly like a native English speaker, especially in a long sentences... and i found it hard to phase the sentences like a native speaker when i speak... i dont have much problem understanding people..but have problems with movie and Tv, and also on the phone ( i am working in a retail shop, its a pain in the *** that when i answer the phone, i felt really bad coz i had to ask the customer to repeat themselves for several times ).. i will give a bit information about my background.. i come from China.. been in Australia for 2 years and 9 months... i can understand Chinese better.. but now i prefer read / speak English, and i think in English most of the time.... and there are several ways i have been doing to improve my english.. i would have audio books / movie audio in my ipod. so i listen to them whenever i can... i used to read a book loudly for at least an hour everyday, at the meanwhile i would have the audio book on as well, so i kinda just follow the audio book as many time as possible, until i can read the page fluently..... somehow i am really in to english.. and my goal is to master english within 3 years... but recently i just realised that i only have 3 month left and i am still not as good as native speakers,, i know i am a bit harsh to myself,, but i cant help it, i am really stressed out recently,, so if anyone can help or have a good advice,,,pls tell me... ps.. i am now living with a local guy and have a job in OZ retail shop, and i dont speak my native language at school at all.. so basically i have to speak English 24/7, but i still found myself a bit too slow with the english learning.. coz i am now losing my chinese,, and i prefer speaking english,, but i cant speak them very fluently,, so very frustrated... .thx guys...

Answer:
I think what you are doing is very helpful. Continue reading aloud from a book for an our everyday and what I suggest is that you read and write as much as you can. Reading and writing can improve your English skills greatly. Also, you need to be patient. It sounds like you are being too hard on yourself and you are getting a little frantic on learning English as fast as possible but know that these things take time and you have to go little by little and in the end, if you are determined, you will reach your goal. Good luck!

Look its a little bit difficult to speak english like a native person bcoz you dont blong to that nativity. I would recomend you to watch english channels. esp. news channels & serials ... as much as you can. You can also read a newspaper and select words difficult to pronounce from it.Then go to the onlin dictionary of oxford(or any good brand) and seach those words. After that u must hear the pronounciation of these words............. But I will quote one thing: practice makes perfect

Language skills are just much much more than only speaking and accent. Actually, broadening/improving one's language skills is a very broad concept, it should be done in more than one ways at the same time which is highly recommended. One can NOT become better ONLY in one area, say, chatting or speaking, one MUST improve skills in ALL dimensions of the language! Learning language well requires being as active as possible and making the learning as FUN for oneself as possible. Taking lessons is always important, but equally important are these: 1) Listen/watch: Keep listening to internet radio stations like BBC, watch TV shows in English (use only subtitles, NOT voice dubbing in case you are not a native English speaker!), etc. 2) Write/communicate: Try to find discussion forums from the web about things that you find interesting and FUN (music/various artists, hobbies, etc.) and start communicating there with other people using only English. Start using instant messaging systems in case you find some new friends or start emailing them. Please do NOT be afraid of making mistakes or hesitating, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! The more you enjoy communicating, the better! 3) Buy yourself a proper dictionary, and each time when you see a strange word that you do not understand, look it up. Putting words into their CONTEXT is one of the best ways to broaden one's vocabulary and grammar knowledge, the more you read and write the better. Memorising is NOT the best way to go with learning vocabulary, grammar or any other language areas! The main point in ANY language learning is to make it as fun as possible for yourself. Try to find topics that INTEREST you, read online newspapers (Times, Guardian, Independent...), listen to BBC/NBC and other radio stations online, if you find a discussion forum for e.g. your favourite hobby or your idols in music do participate there, etc. The key word here is CONTEXT, which means that it is easier to learn new words and their usage as well as grammar when you use/see them in their real CONTEXT. The more you see and hear the new words in their context and the more you use them in your speech & writing, the easier it becomes to remember their meanings and correct spelling. Do NOT be afraid of making mistakes though, because even native speakers do make mistakes and do hesitate at times! I'm sorry there is NO EASY WAY out with this, one really must develop language skills in ALL these language "levels" or dimensions in order to reach better language skills!! Last but not least: NEVER EVER use ANY online translators, they are nothing but utter rubbish!! English is practically EVERYWHERE in the online world these days, you just have to use your imagination to find it! Learning pace is always personal, it takes the time it takes so there is no reason to hurry it up too much. If you do, you will not learn so well. Also, please learn the basics of the standard English first before advancing to finer details like dialects/accents. A word of warning though: Do stay well away from overrated, overpriced and overhyped language "gimmicks" such as Rosetta Stone, they really are NOT worth for checking out! Good luck!

yes , because , you are a chinese , so this is normal , but ,even you stay in english speaking countries for ten years you cannot still understand them well like native speakers unless you improve english from the essential element, for example your vocabulary ,must be the same as or close to native speaker ,this is very important , at least your english level should be close to mother tongue. hope it helps secondly , but now i prefer read enlgish you ought to say i prefer to speak enlgish not prefer read . grammar , vocabulary and listening speaking focusing on more abt these items
