I began learning spanish 3 years ago and without any classes. Just on my own frm my computer. And just after having learnt little spanish i began french too. And later i really boosted my spanish from shakira songs. After listening To 'pes descalços' and 'estou aqui' i also learnt portuguese. All these in three years without any classes and courses. It was hard but even i feel wierd how i did this. Besides english is my third language after nepali(mothertongue) and hindi. I can also write urdu, hiragana, bangla, devnagari and korean. Is this wierd? Can these all help me build my career? Or is this normal? Thanks in advance!

Answer:
No. It's not weird that you have been able to learn something of a bunch of languages using the computer and a few songs. However, it's unlikely that, at this point, you could really use THAT professionally. But you can use that as a jumping off point to learn the vocabulary that you would need to upgrade your skills to professional. (Honestly, I doubt the vocabulary from Pies Descalzos would get you terribly far in the professional world! Good CD, though!) See, the fact that you already knew more than one language added to your ability to quickly learn others. I'd suggest finding a way to make sure you have the grammar and vocabulary to use them professionally, and go that route!

Do you want us to congratulate and praise your so-called ability to speak languages? To me, this seems rather like a self-praise question in which you want us to acknowledge the languages you have learned. This question could be formed in a much neutral and non-egocentric manner. For example, you could have just got to the point and said: Will being a talented polyglot help me succeed in life? But, in my opinion, you do not simply want to convey this question but feel good about yourself. If it is true that you have learned all of these languages, then you really are a talented polyglot. However, if you go onto many peoples profiles on Facebook or another social network site then you will see how many people can speak Spanish, German and French when they really cannot get past a simple and basic dialogue. If you can speak a language, you can talk, read and speak the language perfectly and fluently. Perhaps you cannot write academia or technical stuff but you must be able to do those three in order to say that you can 'speak' the language. This is in no way (or it is not my intention) for this to me ad hominem. This is for whoever reads this. If you really do speak these languages fluently, then well done and finding a job should be easy
