SEMIOTICS Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas tells The story around the character Sinbad who has to Journey to a magical land of chaos to retrieve legendary Book of Peace, a mysterious artifact that protects the land from chaos, after being framed for stealing it by the goddess eris. He must retrieve it back before the impending deadline or his friend prince proteus (who have sacrifice himself in Sinbad place) will be executed. As movie takes around place in Persian myth as environment is Persian/Greek related. Since the movie calls for The story of Sinbad to revolve around the character Sinbad who travels with his crew on a voyage around the seven seas they are Therefore signified as typical out-going pirate stereotype. In the movie The Character of Sinbad has become very complicated one, He starts out as a 2 dimensional archetype of a hero that was told back in the old times of Aristotle and after his called for adventure he becomes to grow, learn, seek and fail and ultimately become a true hero. He is the kind of person who would not sacrifice for others as he is reluctant in retrieving the book even when everyone is counting on him. Because of this archetype he is signified as an outlawish character. He travels around on his ship and His adventures personality also signifies his ego. Also adding to Sinbad’s character is his life of thievery which makes his personality more adventures and free spirited this is contrast with his best friend prince proteus who is not free spirited and his environment signifies this character upbringing and personality of having to live a life of discipline and order. Also The character development of the villainess Eris signifies a sadistic femme fatale who is constantly in sinuous motion fitting into her environment the realm of chaos. The movie begins with Sinbad trying to steal the book from a prince proteus ship which heading to the palace for celebration. Loud action music is the signifier for the call for adventure as Sinbad fights with the crew from that ship to steal the book. After saving the prince from a sea monster He was invited to the celebration. The book of peace is the sign of life and bringing it to the palace signifies that the kingdom will live in joy and prosperity and when the villain Eris steals the book peace all the joy and prosperity is gone with it. This tragedy signifies the event of destruction and darkness as the city began to crumble around them and the sky became dark. Technology helps to make the scene even more dramatic as when the moment Eris steals the book the camera angles tilts and loud music are use to create a sense of appending doom. Having no choice but to retrieve the book or die Sinbad sets sail to the land of chaos. On board he meets the princess marina which to him is a bad thing as she is a woman (sign) inferiority to the manliness of his crew but decided to keep her after she saves the crew from sirens. Sinbad heasd of to the realm having to learn, seek and fail. He returns without the book after failing to furfile villainess test and awaits his execution. This self sacrificing personality signifies the change that the character has gone through in his journey as he has learned to accept responsibility. The sunsets signifies misery for the whole kingdom as Sinbad awaits his execution but the villainess intervene furious that he has unknowingly furfile her test she gives him back the book. Having gotten back the book signifies that peace is once again set upon the Kingdom. Having transformed into a better person Sinbad sets off for a new adventure into the sun rise a signifier of a new beginning.) Thanks for helping me and i'll see that i'll help you in the future.
