How long will it take for a person to learn TAMIL?

    Spoken Tamil and Written tamil are very different. Spoken tamil can be learn by conversing with a tamil friend in a month. The character/phonetics is not like hindi/sanskrit, phonetics vary with context and words. Such difference in phonetics can easily be learnt by conversation. This would invoke interest in the language and Tamil is a very sweet, expressive, emotional language and requires real use of your mouth/palate/muscles. As per my opinion u will have to first hear the language for some days then find out that if you like its sound or not. Having a liking towards any language plays a major role in learning it. When you like it then half the job is done.

Honestly speaking, it depends upon the interest you take to learn it. For me, learning Hindi took hardly a month.
