What page is this Grapes of Wrath quote on?

What does this quote from the grapes of wrath mean?

  • There's a thing I ain't never had enough of. Gonna get me a whole big bunch a grapes off a bush, or whatever an' I'm gonna squash 'em on my face an' let 'em run offen my chin. I know it seems like I spelled some words wrong but that's how it is in the book.

  • Answer:

There's an allegory behind this quote. It is also trying to show greed in men. He can never get enough of "grapes" (which could be symbolic for anything) and his greed is also excessively wasteful because he is just going to let the grapes run off his chin anyways--i.e. not using them in a productive manner. Also, notice how everything is so physically described? There's nothing emotional/psychological about his need, it's purely the physical sensation that's tempting which means it's a very shallow reason. I read this several years ago so I don't remember the book very well. I hope this makes sense.
