Can someone please help me explain this quote?
-
I have a quote that I don't understand. This is my homework for Social Studies class. Here is the quote: "Some of the people disapprove, but their disapproval was only silence." By: Kurt Messerschmidt. I need a detailed and easy to understand explaination for this quote.

Answer:
That means that many people did not like the idea at all. Whatever the idea was, they disapproved. But they did nothing about it, and said nothing to show that they didn't like it. Their disapproval was only silence.

Why is My pic of a man??????????
it means that if you believe in something and others disapprove, their disapproval is only silence throughout what you are trying to accomlish unless they state them and make them known.

by saying nothing they showed that they were too unsupportive/scared/offended/unimpressed to speak cheers!

It just means that people have opinions either they approved or disapprove. And if someone disapproves or something sometimes they don't stand up and voice their opinions they just remain quiet and don't speak up.

ok it like this some pppl disapprove thier disaprroveable look up the words in the dictionary think of what it really means.
aj
To me this means that no one took it upon themselves to speak up or come forth with an alternative to their dissapproval. By answering it with only silence its the same as doing nothing at all. Can't expect to change things with nothing more than silence.

It may be a reference to people who really should speak up and say something, but they don't so nothing every really changes. There is also a famous quote that says "The only thing necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing." I think it was Rousseau and it was later used about people who did nothing to stop HItler and the Nazi's. Good luck.
