How To Trade Gold?

How do you trade pokemon between red and gold version?

  • I have 2 GBA, and a GBA link cable. Every time i attempt to trade, both games ask to save, both say please wait, and everytime gold version says "your friend is not ready, come back later." This happens everytime and ive played the gold version alot, and completed the first mission on red. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    2 things. In the johto game you must use the time machine. And even if you are it still wont work as you need an old Gameboy link cable. And the only place you can get them is online and even then they are somewhat uncommon. ebay sometimes has them but not always.

You don't have to beat the Elite Four in either game to be able to trade. I'm not sure exactly at what point you're able to trade in Red but I'm POSITIVE that you can by the time you have 3 badges, I did. I had the SAME EXACT problem a few weeks ago, only it was with Yellow and Crystal instead but the same principles apply here(trading between 1st and 2nd Gen games) I bought three different trade link cables and 2 of them worked perfectly fine. However, I used two GBC's instead and the wire I used had a switch on it that could be either switched to GBC or GBA. Some things you should remember when trading between 1st and 2nd Gen are... -Make sure the pokémon you are trading don't have any moves or items that don't exist in 1st Gen games and if they do have moves that didn't exist it won't let you trade, you need to delete the moves. -Make sure you are using the same kind of GB, either two GBCs or two GBAs or two GBSPs. -Make sure the trade link cable is meant for the kinds of GBs you are using and if it has that switch I talked about before switch it to the correct one. -Make sure the trade link cable is plugged in all the way.
