-

Answer:
Generally all Psychic types perform well. Alakazam is incredible. It's fast and very powerful. Slowbro is an excellent defender with power to boot. Venusaur is sturdy and has Sleep Powder. Gyarados can learn a lot of different TMs and is powerful in terms of Special and Attack. Blah blah, just use your favorites. Also, you can abuse Mewtwo. With two Amnesias, Mewtwo's Special becomes 999. Nothing stops it then!

You forgot to include Mew and most of all of my friends choose Squirtle as their starter pokemon so it can be a Blastoise and my friend beat the elite four with only 2 Blastoises without any items and he nicknamed one of them Waterfreek! lol! I would also suggest Snorlax's move combo: Belly Drum+Giga Impact, it's a sure one hit KO even on steel types!

Alakazam-Great speed and Sp. Atk Gengar-Same as Alakazam Machamp-Good attack, just survive a turn or two Fearow/Zapdos/Articuno/Charizard- All great Flying types with good moves. (Charizard+Fire Spin gets annoying in RBY) Kabutops-GREAT attack, but not the best choice, because of lack of moves Mew-Yes I know Mew, is uber/rare, but there was a great Glitch you could do back then to get one easily. It can learn any TM also. Electrode-Best speed in the game, according to some, and can learn Explosion. Venusaur-Good HP draining with Mega Drain, Leech Seed, and Toxic in its arsenal. Nidoqueen-Back in RBY, it could learn Bubble Beam, Thunderbolt, etc. Dragonite: Has uber attack, and some good moves. Aerodactyl: Has Rock Slide and Fly, plus high Speed and Attack. Note: These may not Work in GSC, RSE, and P/D, due to the new Pokemon expansion, and the fact new attacks were created that withered some of these guys down.
The Dark Muse
Raticate: Super Fang and Hyper Fang Jynx: 2 good types Gengar: Best Ghost Marowak: Great moveset Gyrados: Powerful and worth training magikarp Electabuzz: Powerful moves Magmar: Powerful Moves Pikachu (until lvl 43) Raichu: Lots of good moves Hitmonchan: Learns lots of diferent types of moves Porygon: Tri attack is great Venomoth: Psychic is a great move

First 150? Try going to GameFaqs and checking out their FAQS and Guides on any of the original games. There should also be pokedexes (includes base stats and moves learned) and other stuff. I personally prefer a mix of fast/powerful and slow/tanks in my team, but that's just me.
