So I took up bowling last year, and have been getting better. I wanna get a new ball. what should I look for?

So last year I took up bowling, and bowled a league last year, during the summer, and this season is about half over. I am looking into up grading and getting a new ball. I originally started with a 12lb plastic ball. I gradually worked my way up, and am now bowling with a 15lb ball, but it is techincally a hand me down ball. I am a lefty, so it is hard for me to find balls that work good for me that arent drilled for me (which I know is how i should do it) but balls are expensive. I think I am at the point where I can actually invest decent money in a ball that is meant for me, and meant for a slightly experienced bowler. I do throw a bit of a hook, and the ball that I use is what I was told is called a semi-finger tip. I really enjoy how it feels, and I have the arm to throw a heavier ball. I was contemplating going with a 14lb ball, but I have been doing 15lbs for 6 months now, and dont see the point in going down, but I do know I dont feel comfortable with 16lb, which I dont think most people are. I was told to look into reactive resin balls, but idk if that would be the best choice for me or not. I thought about just going into the pro shop and getting help picking the right ball from the guy who runs the shop, but figured looking into some details before I go in would be wise, if I am gonna be spending good money on a ball. Any advise would be great! Thanks!!!

Answer:
First, lets talk about your ball weight. The ball should never feel too heavy when you release it. In fact, you shouldn't even notice the weight of the ball. If you do, then 15lbs. is too heavy, and I recommend dropping a pound. You need to be able to control the ball and if it's too heavy, you'll lose control. What should you buy? It depends on your style for starters. Do you consider yourself a cranker, a tweener, or a stroker? Do you like to play outside and throw more of a straight shot or do you move to the deep inside line and hook it a lot? Do you bowl on drier lanes or heavier oil? I would start with your local pro shop inside your bowling house. Have the "pro" watch you throw a few shots with the ball you currently use. He'll get an idea of your style, speed, and the amount of "revs" that you put on the ball. From there, he will be able to make a ball recommendation based on what he sees. I'll give you one option. Ebonite Game Plan.......good ball for a medium lane to medium heavy oil and drier lane conditions with higher polish. The Game Plan will give you good length and a smooth strong continuation on the back-end making this ball good for most house shots and even sports league shots. Very good ball. Good luck!
