Help finding mass and center of mass?

Finding the center of mass on a x y plane.?

  • Three masses located on a x - y plane have the following coordinates; a 5 kg mass has coordinates given by (2, -3) m; a 4 kg mass has coordinates (-4, 2) m; a 2 kg mass has coordinates (3, 3) m. Find the coordinates of the center of mass to two significant figures. Explain how you got your answer.

  • Answer:

    The general formula is X = (sum of moments)/(sum of weights) So, for the x direction, X = (5*2 + 4*(-4) + 2*3)/(5 + 4 + 2) = 0.0 Do the same for Y and you'll be done.

Other answers

(moment about the y axis divided by total mass) x = (5*2+-4*4+2*3)/11 = 0 (moment about the x axis divided by total mass) y = (-5*3 + 4*2 +2*3)/11 = -1/11 x,y = (0,-0.09)
