Try image reconstruction in turbid media. This is a key problem in medical imaging physics. A simple experiment would be to image the shadow of a test object viewed through varying depths of 'flesh' and to reconstruct the original object from the image. The 'flesh' may be an easier to handle analogue like wax or gelatin. You will need to learn about scattering cross sections and absorption cross sections to complete this project. Good Luck.
