Is the speed of sound related to how fast the individual molecules are ?

• Consider a vibrating fork, and a set of five atoms, the fork vibrates, air molecules close to the fork are pushed forward witha net force at a larger speed then when the air molecules arent being affected by any vibrating for, the first set of atoms travel say at 600ms towards (lets say there average speed is 500ms) the next set of atoms, these atoms gain energy and gain velocity of something smaller than 600ms due to loss of energy, they bump into the third set, then they travel to next set of atoms and a slower speed again due to energy loss... Surely the loss of speed makes the disturbance go through the material at a slower rate, so why doesnt the speed of the sound decrease if the sets of molecules are taking longer to reach each other as time goes by , surely the disturbance is slowing down, but the speed of sound is always constant... someone help i have struggled with this concept... and btw i already know that speed ofsound varies in different mediums but that does not help at all with my problem, i am trying to find out why the speed ofsound doesnt slow down in a single medium as time passes , someone help? are these collisions really completely elastic if they are not how would the speed of sound be constant anyone help ideas everyone keeps sayhing to me that the speed of sound doesnt change when travelling through the same medium, and that the speed of propagation is not affected by how fast the waves appear after each other. but explain i dont know this stuff someone help! please
