How fast does the earth rotate in one minute?

What will possibly happen if the earth stops to rotate for one minute?

  • Answer:

Because the earth rotates at about 1000 miles an hour, Newtons third law says that if the earth stops we would all fly at 1000 miles and hour in the direction the earth was spinning, so to the west. Most of us would surely die.

I think “the answerer” meant if the earth suddenly stopped, the statements would be trough. A bit the same way as if the bus would go 1000 miles per hour and would suddenly stop while some people were standing up. Even if seated and fastened, the seat would just pull off But if the earth came to a reasonable halt, assuming the brakes did not fail… Then we would be very heavy, we would be crushed to the ground and could not move or do any gestures because of the extreme gravity. We'd not only continue on our 1000mph tangential velocity, but we'd also experience 1000mph winds behind us (well, we'd be moving with the air at first, but the atmosphere would continue for much longer at it's high relative velocity than we would).

No Bayes' Theorem without General Lee

I think the brakes would fail. But if it did stop then the engine would stall and I doubt if we could ever get it going again.

I agree with the first two answers.
