What Is Science?

Religion vs. Science, take a moment to consider the fallowing and tell me what you think?

  • Imagine if someone says that they could only understand love if they can put it into some kind of scientific formula, or measure it out to prove it experimentally? “Science “can tell us little about the appreciation of a sunset, about the soul of man or so many other things. For that matter, science can tell us very little about the mind itself. The thing is, science can only begin after the universe and the creation already exist. Science can tell us nothing about what happens before that. In fact, let me say this; science begins after creation. The first law of physics, conservation of matter and energy says matter and energy can neither be created nor destroyed. This tells you that science does not know how matter came into existence. It should also tell you that if matter cannot be created under the laws of this universe, that something outside the 1st law created matter and energy. The most important law of science itself points to a “special creation” outside of science

  • Answer:

This possibly is a really queer topic. Religion vs. Science? What must it be for a zone war? I think that both religion and science are different, and not really compatible, religion being a fantasy account of the Universe and science trying to realisticly explain the phenemenon of existence without succumbing to fantasy and mythology. Possibly, the religious explanations are so made as that man makes himself to be a civilized and intelligent being, and not a monstrous barbarian. And so that he may be at least resemble an intelligent animal. Don't forget the dates that most of these religions were founded, and the scientific data of those times. If you would like, then tell me what God you talk about when you say that the laws of physics started in the aftermath of creation, and what Religion has the answer to the question of matter, and who's name do I chant when I look for the great between outside science.

"Science is boring without religion" - Albert Einstien. I don't think that the universe could just happend. Someone had to make it, its just the way it is. Also, I don't think science can make people have feelings for eachother and have love... God definitly made that.

I have to agree that with fundamental questions like these, even philosophers are struggling. I guess until we can do better than 'God made it' and 'He moves him mysterious ways' and the always informative 'My ways are not your ways', we will need to keep God around, in a closet or something, and try not to get too worked up over the whole deal. I have to say though that having God around to solve the more unpleasant 'realities' like death, injustice and solitude, is nice but all a bit too convenient. Who knows? Maybe I am a masochist trying to sadistically inflict my bleak world view on you. Actually, even though I don't believe in Him I couldn't explain who or what I cry out to for help when the chips are down. That is, if alcohol is not in reach.

yes but this law is relative to the study of concrete inside the box physics..... every action has an equal and oposite reaction so the universe must have come from something beyond the 3rd dimension. ya dig

Science uses a method that will adhere to almost everything. If you are looking for the science that talks about the mind, it is called "Psychology". That would be the science that can tell you what love is. The fact that it holds different meanings for people isn't science, but psychology is able to explain why people feel that way. Love is simply a mental attraction a person has for another person. Science does not have all of the answers, but it works to find them. Creation isn't a science, it is a belief and it has no proof except for a book. As science progresses, we may be able to find out what happened with the Big Bang. Right now there is no explaination, but the laws of physics can be rewritten as physics progresses. Mind you this will get more complicated, but it is still science. P.S. I am a Christian, but creation and intelligent design is wrong. Neither are science

You are correct that science has no answer for what created the universe. But it doesn't need one. All science strives to do is to explain the universe we live in, nothing more. And science can't yet tell us much about the mind, but the brain is a physical thing like everything else and it can and will be understood eventually.

Your question is well thought out and well written. You are correct - all of the theories and explanations about both life and the universe all start out with the necessary building blocks already in place. This is the best science can do - try and explain our universe and the laws it obeys as it exists and perhaps extrapolate these findings into the past or future. It does not try and explain where the true origin came from - it must start with a singularity or an enormous, inconceivable amount of energy. Since man has never been truly satisfied with unanswered questions, it becomes necessary that a creator is thus introduced. Because of these obvious short comings of science, it should be obvious that religion and science are not necessarily mutually exclusive. Neither can trump the other and both are necessary when a full explanation to the many age old questions that have plagued man is sought after.

Religion tries to give an easy answer to everything that cannot be shown by science. Science is always trying to find the answer. Perhaps we cannot trace the history of the universe to before the big bang (I assume we agree that the universe as we know it began with the big bang, as that has been proven), but as a scientist I find it unacceptable to let that question be answered by a fairy tale. Something happened before the big bang. Or maybe nothing did, perhaps the dimension of time was not unraveled until this explosion. Just because we don't know now doesn't mean it can't be found out later. The focus of modern physics past quantum mechanics has been finding a way to understand the universe according to a single theory (because currently, general relativity and quantum mechanics do not apply to all circumstances). If such a theory is developed, I believe we can then trace the history of the universe and see what happened before the big bang. You are confusing yourself. You say that science cannot tell us anything about the "appreciation of a sunset," or in other words cannot describe a feeling. While I happen to disagree with you, for now I'll pretend that science cannot. However, then you try to use the religious stories of creation and say that they are factual. Science is fact. You cannot argue against the fact that, say, a bowling ball and a feather will fall at the same rate in a vacuum, any more than you can argue against the theory that the universe is expanding at an increasing rate. Nor can you argue for the fact that the earth is only thousands of years old. Carbon dating has told us that the earth is much older than the Christian estimate, as have records of ancient cultures that predated earth's "beginning." Science may not prove everything, but it can and probably will at some point in the future. It has already disproven creation.

Very good question. You are quite correct in saying that science can not tell us what happened before the big bang, or even what happened at the instant of the big bang (call it creation if you want). All scientific theories break down at that instant (e d should study cosmology a bit more). However, it can tell us what happened after creation, and what is happening now, and what will probably happen in the future. Without going very deep into creation, at the moment after the big bang, all there was was energy, and a lot of it. Matter could not exist at those tempertures. As the universe expanded, the tempertures droped, allowing some of the energy to convert to elementry particles, and from there, atoms, nebulas, stars, planets and the rest of the universe as we know it today. Or, you could say. . . Light Chaos Form

haha funny, Science proves everything religion cant. You say science only started after the creation well what about the bible that is after the creation too or did god write down everything on there and told us what happened? no..... and this wisdom cube guy sounds real ignorant....science does tell us how the universe was created YOU DOPE! it is made up mostly of dust particles and gases. the planets were created by the constantly supernovas of the starts.....
